Custom Phoebe Character Portfolio

So I've just been chilling out since the end of my first quarter at the Art Institute so now time for a lengthy post. This is the final character portfolio project I did for my Character and Object design class. Which is also the beginning concept work for a story I want to work on called Custom Phoebe.

So let's get this started.

So here we have page one which is the set up page for the main character, Phoebe Leal.

Phoebe's body turns.

10 of Phoebe's expressions.

2 of Phoebe's action poses.

2 of 4 of Phoebe's acting poses.

4 of 4 of Phoebe's acting poses.

 10 of Phoebe's hand poses.

1 of 5 of Phoebe's props.

4 of 5 of Phoebe's props.

Finally, Phoebe's head turns.

Moving on to the second character

Here is Bronx's set up. He is the trusty partner to Phoebe.

Bronx's body turns.

10 of Bronx's expressions.

Finally the third character Rae Djn, the third teammate in Phoebe's team.

Rae's Setup.

Rae's terrible drawn body turns (I didn't like how this turned out)

10 of Rae's expressions.

Here's the character line up and size comparison.

Background 1 of 2, Phoebe's house on the command ship.

And finally background 2 of 2 a rough sketch of the city in the command ship. (Command ship = home away from home for Phoebe and co. since they travel the universe busting criminals.)

So yeah there we go.

Just the a little inside info. I was very much inspired by Megaman and the game Mighty Switch Force. The idea for the story came from the idea of galaxy space police force stuff through out sci-fi things as well as the general premise of the Green Lantern. Star Wars can be a factor of inspiration as well. Also Bronx's design was inspired by Earthworm Jim and he was suppose to be a human but I changed him after I though of the whole Police in space thing. Rae's design came out of the blue she was suppose to be a robot but I decided to make her into another alien species.

Anyways that's it enjoy.

My new project, Custom Phoebe!

So this post marks the start of my development journal entries for my brand new attempt at making a web comic series. This series is called Custom Phoebe.

Now why do I think this one will more likely start off as opposed to my two other ideas that haven't gotten anywhere? Simply put I have more concept and character development work for Custom Phoebe.

Basically I've been working on the lead cast for Custom Phoebe for my character and object design class. Our final project is to make a 3 character portfolio which includes a whole lot of character design content such their basic profile, synopsis of the characters story and world, facial expressions, body turns, character acting poses, character action poses, backgrounds, and the items or props they use. So yeah it would be a complete waste if all this concept work would not be used for something so I really would like to start something with this. Since I have more of an understanding of these characters than I have with all the other characters I have made.

So let's start by introducing the characters.

First up we have Phoebe the main character.

So yeah our heroine of the story. Phoebe is Universal Police officer. The Universal Police Force is a inter-universe police organization that protects planets under the Universal Law. Phoebe was originally a cop for a space colony city but had a run in with a dangerous bounty hunter who robbed her of her ability to use her arms and legs. So she was given prosthetic limbs. As a result of the incident she wanted to become better at protecting the innocent and decided to join the ones who saved her, the Universal Police Force. So now she and her team patrol the various galaxies stopping evil.

So generally her ability is that her prosthetic limbs are interchangeable so she can "customize" her load out to satisfy any given situation.

I've been developing Phoebe for 7 weeks now and so here is a comparison shot of when she was first designed to what she looks like now. Phoebe on the left is the first sketch I did of her, and Phoebe on the right is the one I did last week. I ended up changing a lot of her design because I had design elements from other characters in her and they were hard to draw consistently for some reason like the hair buns.

I don't have a finished sketch of the second character so let's go to the third

The third character is probably going to be the most popular of the initial three. This is Rae Djn. She is the navigator and tech wiz of Phoebe's team. Rae is a Teleqwin a species from the planet Qwina which are a species who entire body consist of a floating round head. Since they have no limbs they use telekinesis to manipulate their environment. Because they use telekinesis so much which requires a lot of brain power, they manage to gain a extremely high form of intellect and thus manage to develop advance robotic stuff and such like the robot suit Rae controls. Rae is incredibly smart and is a master of multitasking, not to mention she is a unstoppable at strategy games. Her only draw back is that she terrible at any form of combat, ie. she is a bad shot so she tends to sit on the side lines giving out information to the team and is usually behind the wheel of the space craft.

So yeah I want to continually record the progress of this project and hopefully we will be seeing an official launch of the web comic in the near future. It will be glorious and I will feel accomplished.

Stay tune for more development.
